Pastor Deborah Anderson
Walking with a reconciling congregation toward deeper faith,
wider welcome, and a more just world...
Hi! I’m Deborah Anderson and have been serving as Pastor of Florence United Methodist Church since January of 2025.
Prior to that, I served as a Hospice Chaplain in Eugene, and before that, a pastor in Wisconsin and Minnesota, which is where I spent the majority of my years. I studied at Luther Theological Seminary in St Paul and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, where I was formed by deep questions, diverse traditions, and a sacred
curiosity that continues to shape my faith.
I believe in a reconciling God whose love is wider than dogma and whose table has no walls. My theology is grounded in grace, shaped by justice, radical hospitality and freed from the constraints of tradition that exclude or confine. It is a living faith—open, courageous, and always leaning toward love. I believe God is always stirring new life, and we, the church still have something vital to offer: connection, transformation, and hope.
Outside of church, I enjoy long walks, reading the latest and greatest theological writings, exploring the coast of Oregon, textile arts (doing and seeing), gardening, bright colors and moments of joy with my family. I have two beautiful adult daughters, who are still the joy of my life.
If you’re seeking meaning or simply need a place to breathe, I hope you’ll find a home here.
